The Zierden lab is part of a research consortium in the Upper Midwest. The consortium consists of researchers at LSSU, USDA-Forest Service, Mackinac State Historic Parks, Northern Michigan University, Central Michigan University, and Algoma University. Our lab and the consortium are always looking for exciting new collaborations.

Derek Wright
Lake Superior State University
The Wright Lab at Lake Superior State University investigates the effects of anthropogenic activities on environmental quality and human health. Dr. Wight is the MASC Lab facility coordinator.

Benjamin Southwell
Lake Superior State University
Professor Southwell is one of the coordinators of the Cannabis Center of Excellence. His research focuses on PFAS in environmental samples.

Ron S. Zalesny Jr.
USDA – Forest Service
Ron studies genetic and physiological mechanisms regulating biomass production of short rotation woody crops (e.g., poplars and willows) grown for phytotechnologies, bioenergy, and fiber.

Stephen Kolomyjec
Lake Superior State University
Dr. Kolomyjec studies freshwater sponges. This serves to fill a gap in our basic understanding of the freshwater sponge ecology of the Great Lakes region as well as providing an insight into the conservation merit and needs of this overlooked aquatic animal.
